時代雜誌報導，Google開發的社交網路Google+，全球用戶比推特還多，但Google+美用戶互動時間，竟不到臉書的七十分之一。

報導說，全球每月約有3.9億人利用Google+張貼訊息、播打視訊電話或搜尋朋友。只是Google+用戶雖多，使用的頻率卻不高，這也是為什麼Google+推出至今兩年，卻未能發展社交網路成為Google的一大事業。

時代雜誌指出，Google+就用戶數而言，有很好的基礎，但用戶花在Google+的時間卻非常少。據尼爾森調查，8月由家用電腦使用Google+的美國人達到2,500萬人，但朋友互動平均只花5.5分鐘。相較之下，臉書同月有1.28億人，平均互動時間卻達6.5個小時之久。

分析師指出，Google+不敵臉書的理由很多，首先是起步較晚。還有目的不明確：Google+是為了挑戰臉書？或只是想整合Google各項服務？

時代雜誌指出，Google因面臨臉書崛起的威脅，才成立Google+。那時社交網路已成為民眾上網的動機，廣告收入也十分可觀。不過，Google經過一番摸索，錯失了潮流，創辦人佩吉接掌執行長後，才集中資源開發Google+，寄望後來居上。
