Google向媒體寄出邀請函，宣布將於24日在紐約市舉辦Google Play活動，引發各界揣測紛紛，包括Google可能藉這個場合發表新款智慧手機Nexus 5。

邀請函表示，屆時將有音樂、電影、遊戲及電音團體Capital Cities的特別表演，但未提及將發表任何軟硬體。由於媒體收到邀請函不到一天前，Nexus 5才在Google Play商店意外「洩漏」，因此各界猜測，Google將於24日的活動正式推出Nexus 5。

此外，市場也謠傳代號Kit Kat的新版Android系統將於此時發表。
