先前接連公布SteamOS、Steam主機等計畫後，Valve再次公布旗下控制器Steam Controller計畫，預計將使玩家能透過貼近使用需求設計的控制器享受遊戲體驗。

根據Valve宣布，預計將在推出旗下特別打造的遊戲控制器Steam Controller計畫，藉由貼近使用者使用需求，配合雙觸控版作為主要操作，並且捨棄傳統香菇頭搖桿設計，但透過內建特殊雙線性共振發動器 (dual linear resonant actuator)提供更精準的震動回饋，讓玩家能更細膩感受遊戲內的速度、界線、極限、紋理質感、行動確認或任何其它開發者希望玩家留意的遊戲事件。

另外，透過正面可壓按的觸控顯示螢幕，除了可配合遊戲顯示訊息外，本身亦可作為客製化操作介面，而控制器本身也提供總計16組可自訂定義按鍵，讓使用者可自行打造最佳操作體驗。不過，初期對於系統識別部分，僅會將Steam Controller視為滑鼠與鍵盤設備。

Valve預計也將Steam Controller予以開放，將提供合作夥伴自行打造不同應用模式。
