IE 11將預載於年底前預計釋出的Windows 8.1內，而微軟先前也透露將針對Windows 7釋出此款新瀏覽器，目前透過官方部落格宣布釋出開發者預覽版本，讓Windows 7使用者可以一窺新版瀏覽器所帶來新功能。

根據微軟IE部落格所透露消息，將針對現有Windows 7平台式出開發者預覽版的IE 11，功能部分將與Windows 8.1內預載的IE 11相同，提供更快的瀏覽效率，並且符合W3C最新網頁技術規範，而針對JavaScript效能表現也有所提昇。此外，針對硬體加速部分，也將提供高度WebGL與新版CSS相容等。

目前IE 11開發者預覽版本除了提供各國語言介面，其中也將包含繁、簡體中文版本，估計正式版本將會隨Windows 8.1正式更新後推出。
