在近期公布針對大螢幕電視應用、僅美金35元售價的Chromecast後，Google接下來似乎也將針對客廳應用市場推出如同視訊攝影機般的機上盒裝置，並且對應旗下Hangouts服務與動作識別功能，而作業系統將採用Android平台，產品計畫則是由Andy Rubin負責帶領。

Google計畫進軍客廳市場的想法，除了先前推出Google TV產品，並且在近期也傳出與電視內容廠商談論合作事宜，不久前也才宣布推出美金35元售價的Chromecast。而根據華爾街日報網站透露，Google其實曾在CES展覽期間展示未曾曝光的機上盒原型設計，主要將與蘋果Apple TV、Roku機上盒做競爭，同時此項計畫將由Andy Rubin負責帶領。

就華爾街日報描述，此款機上盒原型機搭載視訊攝影機與動態感應元件，將可對應Google Hangouts服務與動作識別功能 (可能也支援語音辨識功能)，至於作業系統將以Android平台為基礎，並且提供串流播放Netflix或Pandora內容功能，整體看起來似乎有點接近先前由羅技推出以Google TV為平台的Revue TV Cam機上盒。

此項產品原本計畫在今年Google I/O期間公布，不過後續可能因為部分因素而取消。

至於Google方面對此並未表示任何回應，但可以確認客廳市場確實是Google未來進軍方向之一。在近期消息中，Google將有可能在今年底或明年初推展全新Google TV平台。
