誤會一場 科學家：恐怖鳥可能吃素

誤會一場？生存在4千萬到5千5百萬年前的「冠恐鳥」（Gastornis）一直被認為是地球上最凶猛的肉食掠奪者之一，但近日卻有德國科學家說，牠其實是面惡心善的「素食主義者」！

根據《法新社》報導，看似凶猛的冠恐鳥屬於不懂飛行的大型鳥類，身高可達2公尺，巨大的鳥喙前端程線鉤狀，因此許多專家對於牠的鳥喙功用一直有許多說法，大多數專家認為這是肉食掠奪者的特徵之一，因此牠獲封「恐怖鳥」的稱號。

但是，德國最新一項研究指出，原來我們都誤會牠了！由德國波昂大學（University of Bonn）地球化學家杜特肯（Thomas Tuetken）提出，過去認為冠恐鳥利用鳥喙啃咬獵物頸部，但經過研究模擬牠的咬力後，發現其實冠恐鳥是草食性動物。

杜特肯進一步說明，研究團隊重新觀察冠恐鳥骨骼化石中的鈣同位素後發現，牠的鈣同位素含量大幅低於雷克斯暴龍（Tyrannosaurus rex）等肉食動物的化石，反而趨近博物館其他展出的草食性哺乳動物和恐龍化石。
