微軟目前宣布釋出Windows 8.1升級，若使用者本身持有合法授權Windows 8作業系統，即可免費獲得更新。而若本身希望從Windows 7等舊款作業系統直接進行升級的話，微軟將提供美金119.99元起的價格，讓使用者透過付費方式升級作業系統。

根據微軟官方部落格透露，即日起正式開放Windows 8.1版本更新，使用者可免費從既有合法授權Windows 8進行升級。而針對目前使用Windows 7、Windows Vista或Windows XP等舊款Windows作業系統者，微軟也將分別提供美金119.99元更新至Windows 8.1，以及美金199.99更新為Windows 8.1 Pro版本兩種付費升級方案。

另外，針對先前使用Windows 8.1教育版作業系統者，微軟也提供美金99.99元更新為Windows 8.1 Pro版本的付費方案，同時針對Windows 8.1 Pro版本使用者，也提供美金9.99元加購Windows Media Center功能。

至於近期之後出貨的新款Windows平台電腦，都將預載Windows 8.1，或者支援透過線上更新為Windows 8.1版本。
