《華爾街日報》（The Wall Street Journal，WSJ）報導，根據知情人士透露，蘋果公司（Apple）已要求代工商鴻海精密(Hon Hai Precision Industry）9月初開始出貨2款iPhone手機，一款是高階，一款是低端。

《華爾街日報》分析，蘋果此舉顯示企圖在智慧型手機市場找回優勢，而因此調整策略。這也是蘋果有史以來，第一次同時發售2款iPhone，在此之前，蘋果從未在很接近的時間內發售不同款的iPhone。

另據相關公司的員工透露，蘋果的亞洲供應商已在6月生產一款金屬殼的iPhone和一款低成本iPhone零件；然而蘋果的發言人表示不予置評。

AllThingsD也報導，蘋果擬在9月10日舉行產品發表會，目前尚不清楚蘋果是否在同一天發佈2款iPhone，或只先售其中一款。
