〔編譯盧永山／綜合報導〕類似三星寫手門案這種僱用寫手在網路上行銷產品或攻擊對手的行為，在國外司空見慣，中國尤其猖獗。

由於很多消費者在購買商品或服務前，會先上網看一下網評，網路因此成為廠商競爭的重要戰場。很多商家會聘請網路公關公司或寫手，在網站上貼出正面評論，甚至攻擊對手產品。

美國紐約州檢察署九月下旬就取締十九家網路公關公司，涉僱用網路寫手，在Yelp、Google Local和City Search等商業評比網站發表不實評論，並處以三十五萬美元罰款。

中國南方都市報二○一一年二月十四日報導，有網路用戶揭露中石化公司（SINOPEC）的一份內部通知，要求各部門招募網路宣傳員，以普通網友的身分，支持油價上漲。

市場研究公司Gartner預估，到二○一四年，社群媒體張貼的產品評價資訊，十％至十五％都是造假的。哈佛大學商學院副教授魯卡（Michael Luca）認為，美國商業評比網站的造假，從二○○六年的五％，到今年已達二十％。
